Today, we got some precious information from Carole Anne Kaufman (also known as “The Whistling Diva”), the producer of “The MASTERS of Musical Whistling”. Please check the Q&As below.
What inspired you to hold international whistling event this year?
The IWC. Lost its funding. And I wanted to keep the tradition of musical whistling competition alive. It is very important for the sustaining of our art. Having champions gives us credibility. And creates community when we get together.
Could contestants perform in desired divisions as they wished?
Most of the whistlers that applied were excellent. We were able to take almost everyone for the divisions that they applied for. I was much more strict with a live band division. Because I want to develop that into a professional concert that shows the world how excellent world-class whistling can be. It is a fine art.
There were two 1st place winners in Live-Band Division, why?
In the spirit of the IWC, and my own beliefs, I wanted to make sure that there was an excellent woman whistler to serve as an ambassador for our art representing excellence.
What is “The Allen deHart Award”?
This year I am proud to announce the creation of “The Allen deHart Award” (Organized of the IWC) . Given to the person that is,”…expanding the awareness, enjoyment, and respect of musical whistling as a fine art.”
Allen will, of course, receive his namesake award for his global contribution to whistling. The first winner of the award, as chosen by the board of the MMW is RYOSUKE TAKEUCHI of Japan, for his ongoing world-wide contribution to the world of whistling competition and “Hikifuki” (self-accompaniment with whistling”)
Do you have a plan to hold “The MASTERS of Musical Whistling” again on a regular basis?
Yes the MMW will be again in 2017. After the WWC. Hopefully I will be able to host a concert in 2016. “The mission is the expansion of the awareness, enjoyment and respect of musical whistling as s fine art.”
